Men V Women

The expectations for men and women have changed a lot in 2012.  We are now living in a society where the expectations for men and women can be interchangeable.  Women are now able to enter the work force and earn income for their family.  In other generations only men were supposed to have a job while the women stayed at home and cooked and cleaned.  Women are now expected to be able to do everything that men can.  Likewise men are expected to be able to do everything women can except, give birth.  There is one thing that women cannot be expected to do.  That is to play professional sports, and have an audience.  They will never have the same skills and abilities, and they probably will never be nearly as marketable as men's sports.  Although, men and women now have equal opportunity in society, the mind sets have not really changed as much.  I feel that predominately there is still the idea that men are superior and women are inferior.  Women still have the opportunity to be successful, but the mind set is that they cannot be.  I think there are some disadvantages being a women.  I think that is due to the negative stereotypes about women.  Some of them are that all they can do is cook, clean, stay home, and not have a job and not earn an income.  With a lot of these stereotypes out in the work force it provides many obstacles for them to overcome.  These are all obstacles that a man would not have to face, simply for the fact that they are a man.  I feel that if Carlos were posed the question about the soul mate and having their collarbones broken once every three years, I think that he would answer that he would have his soul mates collarbones broken instead of listening to the music.  I don't think this because Carlos doesn't care or love his wife.  I think this because he lives in a patriarchal society, where the men shouldn't have to make a sacrifice for women, but women should make a sacrifice for men.  This is not just true for Carlos but I feel that this would also be true for most men living in that society.

  1. I found your response very interesting and thought provoking. I completely disagree with what you said about women and playing professional sports. You said that women will never be able to play professional sports with the same audience and marketing as men's sports. I feel that women can have the same skills as men and I do not feel that it is accurate to limit women by saying that they will never reach the same skill level as men. Maybe this comes from me being a woman, I feel that women are empowered and can do anything. However, I definitely agree with the disadvantages that you listed of being a woman. I definitely find these stereotypes in life sometimes.

  2. I found your response to be pretty similar to many other responses that I have seen. I do agree that there are many stereotypes that people have about the opposite sex and sometimes it can damage and create disadvantages for either sex. I agree with you about how women are more likely faced with the disadvantage of seeming inferior, but as of today it women are equal if not more driven to accomplish more and achieve higher goals due to the stereotypes that have been thrown around back in the day. Without every contribution our world would not be the same. Do you think men have any disadvantages?

  3. I actually agree with when you said women would find it hard to play professional sports, and have an audience. I mean a perfect example of that would be the WNBA. There the tickets for games are one third the price, and this is probably because no one wants to go see it, when they could choose a game from the NBA. I think that this point you brought up is very valid, and has many modern day examples of it.

  4. I also disagree with Kaitlin, not to be mean, just saying that CJ does have a solid point that many women's sports do not have a major audience, and unfortunately that's how it may be for some years to come.

  5. i agree with jimmy an d cj when they talk about the fans. Although more and more people are supporting more woman's sports, the woman's world cup will never compare to the mens world cup just has an example. woman are expected to do everything that men can do like cj said and that has changed over the years. woman do have it still a little harder in the work force. For years to come tho that should change and everything will be equal. i enjoy reading your blog and responding to them.
